Phil James, from GOAP, will moderate session “National pledges, experience and future aspirations”

Phil James, Executive Director of the Global Ocean Accounts Partnership (GOAP) and Director of the Centre for Sustainable Development Reform at the University of New South Wales (Australia) is an environmental economist with over 15 years of experience. He has worked on policy and economic analysis in more than 25 countries, with a focus on the economic and social dimensions of ocean accounts, biodiversity, and the blue economy.

From 2015 to 2018, he served as Fisheries Economist at the Fisheries, Aquaculture and Marine Ecosystems (FAME) Division, supporting coastal fisheries and aquaculture development in the Pacific region. Prior to that, he led the analytical team at the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change, providing economic analysis and policy advice for international development projects in agriculture, forestry, and climate change mitigation.

At the UNOC3 side event “Delivering on the 2030 Sustainable Ocean Economy: Pledge to Develop Ocean Accounts by 2030”, Phil James will moderate the session “National pledges, experience and future aspirations”, which will explore how countries are advancing the use of ocean accounts to support sustainable ocean governance.

With his international leadership and technical expertise, Phil James will help facilitate a dynamic discussion on national commitments, best practices, and future directions for implementing ocean accounting frameworks worldwide.
