Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono to Share Indonesia’s Path Towards National Ocean Accounts
Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia, will join the Ocean Accounts 2030 side event to present “Indonesia: Ocean Accounts Initiative and Achievements.” His intervention will outline Indonesia’s progress in building a comprehensive ocean data system to support blue economy policies and sustainable ocean governance.
As a key architect of Indonesia’s Blue Economy strategy, Minister Trenggono has championed five major policy pillars: expanding marine conservation areas, implementing quota-based fishing, developing sustainable aquaculture, managing coastal and small island areas, and addressing marine plastic pollution. These initiatives are closely aligned with SDG 14 – Life Below Water and aim to position Indonesia as a global leader in ocean sustainability.
Under his leadership, Indonesia has made significant strides in integrating science and data into marine policy. Minister Trenggono’s leadership has earned wide recognition, including the “Best Leader for Developing Blue Economy Strategy” award in 2023 and the prestigious “Bintang Mahaputera” decoration in 2024 from President Joko Widodo.
At Ocean Accounts 2030, he will highlight how structured ocean data systems are instrumental in advancing Indonesia’s Vision 2045 and in shaping a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable maritime future.
