Leading by example: Portugal’s 2030 Ocean Accounts Ambition
Salvador Malheiro, Secretary of State for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs of Portugal, one of the coorganisers of the side event “Delivering on the 2030 Sustainable Ocean Economy”, will share his perspective on the topic of “Leading by example: Portugal’s 2030 Ocean Accounts Ambition”.
The Secretary of State for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Porto and a PhD from the University of Poitiers.
Throughout his career, he combined academic and research work with extensive collaboration with the European Commission as a technical expert in Bioenergy. He was Vice President of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) from 2018 to 2022, and served as Mayor of the Municipality of Ovar from October 2013 to March 2024 and as a Member of the Portuguese Parliament.
As of June 2025, Salvador Malheiro is the Secretary of State for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs.
