Thoriq Ibrahim to present Maldives Ocean Accounts Roadmap and Coastal Vulnerability Mapping

Thoriq Ibrahim, Minister of Tourism and Environment of the Republic of Maldives, will present the national roadmap for ocean accounts development during the session “National pledges, experience and future aspirations”, as part of the UNOC3 high-level side event “Delivering on the 2030 Sustainable Ocean Economy: Pledge to Develop Ocean Accounts by 2030”.

He previously served as Minister of Environment and Energy from 2013 to 2018, where he oversaw national programmes in environment, climate change, energy, water, sanitation, and waste management.

A passionate advocate for small island states, Minister Thoriq chaired the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) for four years, playing a key role during critical UN negotiations on climate change and sustainable development.

He is also the founder of the Maldives Ocean Plastics Alliance (MOPA), a national NGO committed to addressing marine plastic pollution.
At the UNOC3 side event, Minister Thoriq will share how Maldives is advancing its ocean accounting agenda, including the integration of coastal vulnerability mapping to inform evidence-based governance and resilience planning.
