Ocean Accounting for Sustainable Management: Norway’s Experience
Marianne Sivertsen Næss is Norway’s Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Policy. A member of the Labour Party, she has represented Finnmark in the Norwegian Parliament (Stortinget) since 2021 and has served in Government since 2024.
Before joining the national Government, she held various leadership roles in local administration, including Mayor of Hammerfest Municipality (2019–2021) and Deputy Mayor (2011–2019).
As Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Policy, Marianne Sivertsen Næss is committed to advancing Norway’s leadership in sustainable ocean governance and the blue economy. Her priorities include promoting ocean-based innovation, ensuring responsible fisheries management, and strengthening the role of data and knowledge in decision-making.
At the UNOC3 side event “Delivering on the 2030 Sustainable Ocean Economy: Pledge to Develop Ocean Accounts by 2030”, Minister Sivertsen Næss will participate in the high-level session “National pledges, experience and future aspirations”, joining other ministers and international leaders to share national perspectives on the role of ocean accounts in achieving the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
